The Anglo-Saxons

We have covered a great deal about the Anglo-Saxons and the historical period in which they ruled and changed England and developed our language. They were an interesting society. What are two things you found to be interesting about the Anglo-Saxons? Explain why. (The deadline to post a response to this blog is midnight Friday, January 14, 2011).

I never realized where English came from until now. Poetry was so important to them, and now it is rarely reconized.Poetry to the Anglo-Saxons was like oil to Americans. I hope to learn more about it. Another topic that intrested me was the how important loyalty was to them. They used it to protect themselves at night from fightening things. Today some people could care less about loyalty. I would love to have been alive for a day in that time period to see what really happened.

I realized how important English is to everyone. I never knew where it came from until now. I think the Anglo-Saxon liked poetry like we like cell phones. I hope to learn more about their culture. The other thing that has interested me was the way they treated each other. People today does not treat each other with respect and loyalty like they did. I think this is a important trait everyone should have that the Anglo-Saxons had. I hope we learn more. I think if we could have lived in that time we would treat each other differently.

One thing thats interested me about the Anglo-Saxons is their mixture of religions. They believed in both Christanity and Paganism. I think that is so interesting that they managed to balance both types of religion during times of trouble. I also found it interesting that the way we do things in our goverment. They contributed the english language. We speak english everyday. I really do not know where the world would be today without their contribution.

The first thing I found interesting was how different the themes of their stories were from the Celts because they lived in the same time period but had completely different views on life. I also thought it was interesting how stories were passed by word of mouth rather than by writing because there could have been many stories lost and never recorded. Also, those stories that may have been lost could have been very valuable and important. JM-2

The Anglo-Saxons interested me in many ways. They were very loyal to eachother, and believed that loyalty would protect them. Also their constant bravery and persistance against the Vikings was very inspirational. They contributed in making the English launguage the way it is today. AC2
