Beowulf: Epic Hero

We have discussed the characteristics of the epic hero and we finished the first battle in BEOWULF. What traits of the epic hero have you seen thus far in the story? In what ways have these traits been exaggerated? What do these traits reveal the Anglo-Saxon values and ethics? (The deadline to post a response to this blog is midnight Thursday, January 20, 2011.)

The traits in the epic hero in Beowulf are those of strength, loyalty, and forgiveness. Some traits have been exaggerated because you couldn't really pull someone's arm off. These traits reveal that they are loyal to their leader and forgive the people who don't mean harm.

Beowulf is the epic hero because he shows all the traits of a hero, such as his loyalty, strength, and persistence. Beowulf has shown so far that he is not affraid of a challenge. These traits have been exagerated because Beowulf swam while fighting monsters, and tore the arm off of a monster. The Anglo-Saxons are very loyal people, and the more loyal they are the more they are respected. ColtonL._2nd

The epic hero Beowulf shows loyalty, strength, and he is ver ethical. In the book, Beowulf is a big her to hrothgar's kingdom. His loyalty is great towards the people to help get rid of te magical monster grindel. Secondly, his stregth is majorly exagerated because the book reads that he has the strength of thirty men.In this battle it also exagerated his strength by stating that he ripped off grendel's arm. Finally, he is very ethical because in the first battle he faces Grendel without a weapon because grendel doesn't use weapons. To me Beowulf is a very epic hero. JR-2

THe epic hero Beowulf shows a great deal of courage, strength, and loyalty. He was very couragious when fighting Grendel, because noone else would. He also showed strength and loyalty because he had the strength of 30 men in his single hand and he stayed true to his people. He earned a lot of respect and gratitude for killing the monster. To me Beowulf is a very epic hero.
