In the beginning...

We have covered a great deal about the Anglo-Saxons and the historical period in which they ruled and changed England and developed our language. They were an interesting society. What are two things you found to be interesting about the Anglo-Saxons? Explain why. (The deadline to post a response to this blog is midnight, Monday, August 19, 2013).

Some interesting things to me are the fact that some of our words come from the Anglo-Saxons, for example, cow, deer, and hog. Also it is interesting that our days of the week come from the Anglo-Saxons, which, came from their gods.PR1

Some things I find interesting about the Anglo-Saxons is that our days of the week come from them. For example, we get the day thursday from the god thunor. I also find it interesring that Anglo-Saxon scops could remember a whole story about someone or something and then they would tell it over and over to make that warriors name live on.

I found the names of the week and how they were named interesting. The names for them then are really close to what they are now. I also enjoyed learning about bards. They seem interesting. I would have loved to hear one in person. LS1
