The story of a hero...

The epic Beowulf covers 50 years in life of the hero Beowulf. During these years, Beowulf encounters 3 major battles. Which battle--Grendel, mother monster, or dragon--did you enjoy most and why? (The deadline to post a response to this blog is midnight Saturday, January 19, 2013)

My favorite battle in Beowulf is the battle with Grendel. This battle is my favorite because it is quick and easy, and Beowulf fights this battle for the right reasons and not for the fame and money

My favorite battle in Beowulf would be the Battle with Grendel's Mother. I like this battle the best because it include the most detail and Beowulf actually has a competition with Grendel's mother, he has to work and move fast to actually win this battle. Even though, he was cocky once he killed Grendel, I still believe that by killing Grendel's mother as well he was thinking of his dad and how he knew he had to repay Hrothgar for his good deed that he did for his father.

My favorite battle was the battle with Grendel's mother. I liked this battle because he had struggled to win the battle. He knew that everything he had was not enough to defeat her. He still continued to fight and with the enchanted sword of the giants, he defeated Grendel's mother.

I enjoyed the fight between Beowulf and the dragon the most. Although it is stated that Beowulf took on this battle for the fame and glory, I also believe he has the people of Geatland on his mind. I enjoyed this battle because it showed the softer side of Beowulf when he was dying. In the end all Beowulf wanted was respect from his fellow Geats, and that is what he got. It was a moment that touched me and reminded me that he is a person with feelings rather than just a strong exterior. KS
