Women of Mystery and Power

Today, we began the play The Tragedy of Macbeth.  The opening scene presents the Weird Sisters.  They make predictions for Macbeth and Banquo.  What effect do you think these predictions are having on Macbeth?  Why?  What is Shakespeare revealing about people through Macbeth's reaction to the predictions?  (The deadline to post a response to this question is midnight, Wednesday, March 21, 2012.)

I think the predictions are effecting Macbeth by giving him the idea of killing Duncan to become king. I think Shakespeare is revealing that people are not who they seem.

The predictions are effecting Macbeth by giving him ideas of killing a royal figure and his son. The reason being to kill these men is so Macbeth can become the king. The witches are messing with Macbeth's head.

The prediction giving to Macbeth at first seem like nothing, but as the story progresses Macbeth becomes effected by the predictons and is tempted to seize power by killing the king. Shakespeare is revealing that people may seem pleasant but with the right temptations can preform evil deeds.

I think the predictions are giving Macbeth temptation. Without the Weird Sisters telling him he was going to be king, he would never have had any thoughts of killing Duncan. Shakespeare is revealing that temptation can make people change for the worse.

Macbeth does not believe the wierd sisters at first. One of the things they said came ture so he believed them. If it was not for them he would not have plotted to kill any one. I think Shakespeare was trying to say people were gullible back then.

The Predicitons are giving Macbeth ideas to kill for the throne. Two of the three predictions came true so that gives Macbeth the courage to make the third prediction to come true as well.

I think the predictions are giving Macbeth thought about killing Duncan and Malcolm so he can become king. He thinks that if some of the predictions came true then the final one must come true. Shakespeare is revealing that if you put an idea in someones head they will take it to heart.

I think the predictions are making Macbeth believe that if the predictions come true,he will get what he wants and that is to be king.Reason being because the first prediction came true and Lady Macbeth putting it in his head. Shakespeare is revealing that a good person with enough persuasion can and will do evil things to get what they want.
