Here come the invaders...

We have covered a great deal about the Anglo-Saxons and the historical period in which they ruled and changed England and developed our language. They were an interesting society. What are two things you found to be interesting about the Anglo-Saxons? Explain why. (The deadline to post a response to this blog is midnight Friday, January 13, 2012).

One thing I found interesting was that they were loyal to their chiefs. I know that doesnt seem interesting but now in our decade loyalty isnt as strong as it was thousands of years ago. The second thing that I thought was intresting was how their language even contributed to ours with it being so different. From the example on the board, I couldnt even read their language and couldnt understand what they were trying to say.

One interesting thing about the Anglo Saxons is how there tribes were constantly fighting for power. I am really a huge fan of power and domination! Another interesting thing i learned off of the power point notes is loyalty to ones tribe or chief became important, loyalty provided protection. Myself personally i think the phrase or saying " if you got my back i got yours," reminds me of this.

I like the Anglo-Saxon language. I'm always wondering why is this word that word, and that word this word. I used to wonder about the days of the week too and now I know. I also think that Alred the Great was very interesting the way ingeniously created a navy to save his villiage. I think it is cool to see how things were then and now.

I think that something interesting about the Anglo-Saxons is how most of our everyday language comes from way back when. I would have never thought that our days of the week was named after Gods and Friday was named after a Goddess; I would have never thought that Sunday was named after the sun. The Anglo-Saxons has a major impact on our language today.
