Welcome
Today is the day we make our choices for tomorrow. English IV will be your last language arts class prior to graduation. This is the time to gain as many skills in writing, reading, and analyzing as you possibly can. Here on this blog spot, you are free to express yourself about the things we are studying. You are reminded about being appropriate to the school environment. I welcome your mature comments.

Tears on the Sand
At the end of the novel, Ralph weeps for the first time. Golding writes, "Ralph...wept for the loss of innocence, the darkness of man's heart, and the loss of the true wise friend called Piggy." So much has happened to Ralph on this island. Which event do you feel had the greatest effect on Ralph? How did it change him? Why? (The deadline to post a response to this blog question is midnight Sunday, April 24, 2011.)

I thought the thing that had the biggest impact on Ralph was becoming the leader. I think this was the biggest impact because he knew he had to mature and he knew he had to make rules and put down his foot so they would survive on the island. Unlike when he was a school boy he now had others to worry about; now he can't just go roll rocks and play with the other boys.
I think the biggest event that had the greatest effect on Ralph was the experiencing death on the island. I think it changed him from having the mind of a child to maturing to a young adult. Ralph knew it was time for him to grow up and not play around.
