Welcome

Today is the day we make our choices for tomorrow. English IV will be your last language arts class prior to graduation. This is the time to gain as many skills in writing, reading, and analyzing as you possibly can. Here on this blog spot, you are free to express yourself about the things we are studying. You are reminded about being appropriate to the school environment. I welcome your mature comments.

Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair.

This is a play of contrasts, especially appearance versus reality. Tell about one character or event in the play that really helped you to see that things aren't always what they seem. (Deadline to post a reply to this blog is midnight Tuesday, December 14, 2010. Also, please answer the poll question on the right side of the blog.)

In the play, Lady Macbeth is absolutely horrible. She is only her true self when she is with Macbeth. She poisons his mind and convinces him to go ahead with his plan to kill the king. She even helps with the murder by putting the daggers with the guards. On the other hand, she pretends to be nice when guests are in her home. She also pretends to faint when the guests are describing the murder scene to help take focus off of Macbeth. She helps to teach that everyone is not what they seem. Always get to fully know someone before you trust them.

Macbeth defeats the traitor Thane of Cawdor in the beginning of the story and earns that title for himself. He earned this title because of this patriotism and loyalty. However, he contradicts this supposed loyalty by killing his kind King Duncan so he can become King. Macbeth is an example of a character who exemplifies the statement that things are not always as they seem.

In the beginning of the play Macbeth seems like an all around guy with hardly any faults, but his true side comes out once he meets the witches. Macbeth is described as heroic and noble in the beginning and evil and treturous in the end. He starts as the Thane of Glamis and is happy and ok until he hears he could possibly become king. When he commits the murder of Duncan is when he started to lose his good character. After he becomes king though it only becomes worse as he gets eaten up with power and is determined to kill anyone or thing that stands in his way. Macbeth is the perfect character to show that though he started off great and looked great, there is evil in everyone.
