Golding said in his discussion after the book ended that all the matters is not what the author thinks he put in the book, not what a teacher or professor says in the book, but what the reader gets from a book. I got that people are very quick to lose control when the authority (in this case the growups)is not there to keep them in check. this is shown when simmon is killed.
After reading this book i think that the moral is that when there is no law people go crazy. There will always be people who get pleasure from breaking laws and doing bad. But if there were no laws these people would do way more horrible things. I think this is vividly depicted when Simon is killed, and also when Piggy is hit by the rock and hurld to his death.
I got from the book is that when the rules that everybody follows is what helps keep us civilized. When those rules don't apply anymore our urge for power starts to show.
The part of the book that help me realize this was the end of the book when Jack and the others that are left end up setting the island on fire to chase Ralph out of the brush that he is hiding so they can kill him.
I got that there is a fine line between being civilized and being a savage. The bout between Jack and Ralph helped me see this fine line.

This novel has shown me how important rules are. Rule represent structure and order. They are the guidelines that societies obey. They make life a little less chaotic then it already is. I also learned that without these rules society will fail. Ralph tried to create rules for the boys to follow, but they were not obeyed and that is when civilization had fallen. Rules are the common ground for society bottom line.
